New or Returning Greeter Volunteers Certification Course (In-Person)  

Description

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) provides income tax assistance to individuals and families in our community. No tax experience is necessary. We will train you! All volunteers must earn certification through these training seminars. 

What Will I DO?

Tax Site Greeter responsibilities include:
The Greeter is the first point of contact for clients when they enter a VITA site. As a Greeter, you’ll greet everyone visiting the site.  As the first point of contact, the Greeter should be customer service focused and able to interact with diverse groups. The Greeter must also be well versed in the variety of services that are available for clients through the VITA program in addition to the free tax assistance. You’ll screen taxpayers to determine the type of assistance they need and confirm they brought all the necessary documents to have their tax returns completed. Tax law certification is not required for this position.

Required Qualifications:
In order to provide the highest level of service to clients, Tax Site Greeters must be IRS-certified, either through a series of classroom training sessions or online.  Greeters must pass the IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct and Intake/Interview and Quality Review Certification tests.  In addition, Greeters are asked to commit to serving a minimum of 40 hours during the tax season (January – April).
