One in eight women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. However, despite having similar incidence rates to white women, African American women are 42 percent more likely to die from the disease. Unfortunately, the key causes of the high mortality rate for women of color are the late diagnosis, a lack of resources, and access to quality health care. During the coronavirus pandemic, the SisterHermana Foundation needs to focus on what we know to be true about breast cancer and that’s early detection saves lives.
