Now that you have attained your IRS Tax Preparer certifications, you are ready to begin volunteering at a VITA site - preparing tax returns for the community! Please, only register for dates that you are available to volunteer. Please, bring a printed copy of your Form 13615 with you to your
Required Qualifications:
In order to provide the highest level of service to clients, Tax Preparers must be IRS-certified, either through a series of classroom training sessions or on-line. Tax Preparers must pass the IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Intake/Interview and Quality Review and Tax Preparer Certification test at the Advanced level. In addition, volunteer tax preparers are asked to commit to serving a minimum of 40 hours during the January – April tax season.
Tax Preparer responsibilities include:

Prepare tax returns for taxpayers who qualify for free tax assistance. Tax returns are typically a simple 1040, unless the volunteer wants to participate in further training.

Answer basic taxpayer questions and refer taxpayers for additional assistance as necessary to local the IRS office, Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITC), etc.

Inform clients about other services available through the RealSense partners.
