Making Strides For Autism will be set up at the World of Nations Celebration helping to make this year's event more accessible and inclusive for those on the autism spectrum and with sensory needs. We will provide our Sensory Tent and Loaner Sensory Bags for event guests to check-in and out to use at the event. On the first day of the event, Friday, February 26, the World of Nations Celebration will offer special “Sensory Friendly” programming from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. This time will be an opportunity for individuals with sensitivities to processing sensory information such as sound, light, touch, etc., to explore the cultural experiences comfortably.
SHIFTS (Volunteers welcome to select 2 shifts for a full day)
Thursday, February 25, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm (Unload and Setup Only)
Friday, February 26, 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. or 2 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, February 27, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, February 28, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. or 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- Thursday Only: Unload van, setup Sensory Tent and area.
- Check-in/out Sensory Bags.
- Spot event guests that may need usage of Sensory Bags and Tent and direct to the sensory area.
- Wipe down and sanitize Sensory Bags when checked in.
- Monitor Sensory Room for the maximum capacity.
- Straighten/tidy up Sensory Room after guest leave area.
- Wipe down and sanitize all Sensory items in the Sensory Tent between uses and at end of the day.
- Share flyers and information about Making Strides For Autism.
- Sunday Only: Clean/Sanitize Sensory items, pack Sensory Tent and load the van.
- Snacks will be provided Fri, Sat, Sun for half-day shifts. (Lunch will be provided for volunteering the entire day.)
- Please dress appropriately in comfortable shoes (volunteer t-shirts will be provided. But please wear you have volunteer shirt if volunteered at a previous event.) (Company teams are welcome to wear their company volunteer shirts if covering the full shift of 5 with their team.)
- Upon arriving at the event site all attendees, staff, and volunteers will be screened by health screening staff, hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the event.
- Any persons within the event site will be required to always wear appropriate face coverings unless they are eating/drinking in a stationary position while maintaining physical distance from others.
- MS4A's Volunteer Coordinator will contact volunteers via email, text, and/or United Way Galaxy system with instructions and more information Monday, February 22, 2021, by EOD.
