This MLK Day of Service, join United Way of Northeast Florida, First Missionary Church of Fernandina Beach and the
Center for Sustainable Agriculture Excellence as they address food insecurity among struggling families.
It is estimated that 1 in 6 adults and 1 of 4 children in Northeast Florida are hungry or facing food insecurity, which is simply not knowing when or how they will get their next meal. The largest growing population experiencing hunger or food insecurity is working families, “ordinary” people who work hard and live on an income that can’t stretch from paycheck to paycheck.
Volunteers are needed to help unload, sort, and hand food to resident families in need.
The MLK Day of Service in Fernandina Beach seeks to honor Dr. King’s vision of dignity, opportunity, and collective responsibility through meaningful acts of service that strengthen and uplift the community. The event recognizes Fernandina Beach’s deep and enduring history, including its proximity to American Beach—founded as a place of rest, refuge, and joy for African Americans during segregation, and long a symbol of resilience, self-determination, and community pride. In partnership with First Missionary Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, this Day of Service reflects a shared commitment to caring for neighbors and continuing the legacy of service, faith, and leadership that has shaped the community for generations.
