United Way's annual celebration of Day of Action is an invitation for people and organizations across the globe to take action to address a variety of community challenges.

This United Way Day of Action, join United Way of Northeast Florida's community partners,  The Hub, New Town Success Zone and Ed Waters Schell Sweet Center as they revitalize the important Jacksonville neighborhood of New Town!

On June 20, join United Way’s Day of Service for a powerful day of revitalization projects in Jacksonville’s historic New Town neighborhood. New Town was established after the Civil War as a working-class African American community and became home to Edward Waters University, Florida’s oldest HBC, in 1866! The area boasts a rich cultural heritage, including being the site of Florida’s first Black-owned bottling company, 50-50 Bottling, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist A.L. Lewis, the state’s first Black millionaire. The community’s resilience and commitment to progress make New Town a vibrant and significant part of Jacksonville’s urban landscape.

This Day of Action builds on the momentum of our MLK Weekend of Service in January and is powered by a grant from AmeriCorps. Volunteers will roll up their sleeves for neighborhood improvements like landscaping, food giveaways, facility enhancements, kit assembling, and more.
