REQUEST FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE VOLUNTEERS

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | US FLAG PLACEMENTS

ON GRAVESITES ON “FLAGS-IN DAY”

THURS., MAY 22, 2025 / 3 PM SHARP

PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY 2:30 P.M.

The Jacksonville National Cemetery Staff and its Support Committee are currently seeking school, military, veterans, church, corporate, civic-outreach and other groups of volunteers to mark their calendars and assist in the tradition of placing U.S. flags at gravesites in preparation for the traditional Memorial Day Observance 2025.

Jacksonville is a leader by having the entire Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia community remember and honor the fallen military during Memorial Day. As you may already know, our Memorial Day initially began as Decoration Day. Each year on May 30th, Americans would decorate the graves of Veterans with flowers.

This flag-placement program will be held on Thursday May 22, 2025, at 3 pm. Please note that Volunteers should arrive by no later than 2:30 pm at the hallowed grounds of the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road,  Jacksonville, Fla., 32218 (Assemble at the Committal Shelter # 3). The event is open to the public for this placement this year of over 20,000 US flags.

Please be advised that, where applicable, Community Service Verification-Validation forms will be executed and signed, if so requested, at the completion of this great outreach event. Please bring your own forms. This is a walking event. Please be prepared to walk the cemetery and you may want to bring work gloves to protect your hands as you push flags into the ground. Dress accordingly. We will have limited water available - you may want to bring your own.

For ease in driving to the National Cemetery, note that there is the new road going directly into the Cemetery named the Gold Star Family Parkway. This beautiful tree-lined parkway is accessed from the I-95 and the Pecan Park Exit.
