Who We Are
We are not a typical Friends organization. We are not in an affluent neighborhood where school funds can be supplemented by simply requesting money from parents. In fact, we are just the opposite with 100% of our students receiving a free lunch. We are one of the most racially diverse elementary schools in Jacksonville.
We at Friends of Dinsmore Elementary believe investing extra effort and resources on our Title One public school students will last a lifetime. These K-5 students need confidence and a strong academic foundation to:
- pursue the educational trajectories taken for granted in affluent families and
- succeed in tomorrow's gig economy.
Friends is a 501(c)(3) with a rock-solid foundation. None of the board members have any family/relatives attending Dinsmore Elementary. We are simply dedicated to helping all students succeed. All donations and grants support student programs/services. All management, general and administrative, and fundraising expenses are paid by Board members. We have audited financial statements.
What We Do
Our objectives:
- Continue and enhance our Know & Grow literacy program for kindergarteners and first-graders.
- Re-start the volunteer Reading Buddies for kindergarteners and first-graders once COVID restrictions are eased.
- Enrich the K to 5 science program with teaching tools and activity supplies.
- Beautify and restore the grounds to instill pride and set the example of how a property should be maintained.
- Encourage the community to get involved with the school.
