Volunteer: Meet ALICE Experience - Available Shifts
The Meet ALICE Experience is designed to help participants understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month. It is a simulation, not a game! The objective is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by low-income people. Here’s how the Experience works: Participants assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget and interact with volunteers playing the roles of bill collectors, school administrators, service providers, and more. A simulation creates a community of people living in poverty for one “month” comprised of four 15-minute weeks. During this hour, each family unit must connect with community resources (i.e. schools, utility companies, social service workers, etc.) to meet their basic needs on a limited income. The experience lasts about two hours. It includes an introduction, the actual simulation exercise, and a debriefing period in which participants and actors share their feelings and experiences and learn about ways they can get involved in reducing poverty in our community. What will volunteers do? During a simulation, we use volunteers to role-play as community agencies such as child care centers, social services, utilities, interfaith services, sheriff and more. We are seeking individuals to join a pool of volunteers who can take on one of these essential roles during upcoming simulations that fit into your schedule. I you are interested in signing up for the Meet ALICE Experience Corps sign up here. As a member of the Meet ALICE Experience Corps, you will come to be experts in helping us spread awareness of ALICE and make strides to alleviate poverty, while still having the flexibility to join the events with days/times that work for you. Volunteer: Become a Caring Connector
We need great volunteers for our Caring Connections Telephone Reassurance Program!
ElderSource's Caring Connections Telephone Reassurance Program provides a friendly telephone call from a volunteer to an older adult who is living alone and/or homebound. The goal of the program is to eliminate or reduce some of the concerns facing homebound seniors: isolation, loneliness, depression, anxiety and cognitive decline. Many older adults want to remain independent and age in place in their own homes; however because they are isolated or housebound, meaningful relationships are difficult to come by. Caring Connections volunteers will reach out by phone regularly to these seniors to offer a friendly check-in and an opportunity to feel connected to the community beyond their front door. This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for someone looking to make a difference in the life of a senior. All volunteers must: Be willing to establish a friendly, caring relationship with seniors over the phone. Have great listening skills. Be willing to make a commitment to call a senior at least once a week for a minimum of six months to a year. Agree to a background screening and reference check. Attend orientation and training sessions. For more information on this program, or if you know a senior who could benefit from this program, please contact: Vanessa Boyer904-391-6631 volunteers@myeldersource.org Agency: ElderSource

Volunteer: Sort clothingThe clothing ministry program of Presbyterian Social Ministries collects new and gently used clothing. Volunteers then come in and sort them by gender, size, type, and season. After they are sorted and boxed accordingly, we distribute them back out to direct-service partner agencies. Typical recipients are schools, churches, and a variety of other nonprofit agencies that give the clothes away directly to those in need. Donated clothes require daily attention and volunteers are critical to keeping the process moving along smoothly. We process over 300,000 articles of clothing per year, most of them new. Much of this success is driven by the volunteers that give their time throughout the year getting clothes ready for distribution. How to be prepared: When volunteering, wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Sometimes volunteers may be asked to lift some boxes. The clothes need to be sorted, sized, and grouped by gender and season and boxed up. Specific instructions will be given so you’ll know exactly what, where, and how to do the clothing. There is ice/water onsite and a refrigerator/microwave available to use should you like to bring a snack to eat while you’re here. At this time, we can only accommodate small groups (more than two (2) people) with pre-approval. We are in greatest need of volunteers that can commit to a regular schedule. Time is flexible: come for 1-2-3 hours, all day, every other week - whatever suits your schedule and personal goal as the volunteer. Unfortunately, we are not open on weekends. Minors are welcome when accompanied by adult supervision. Work is indoors. Work is episodic. Some days we may have a lot to sort through, other days we may have very little. We will inform you if there is not any need to come in if you are scheduled. Please note: We will contact you before your first visit to confirm times and availability. Please do not arrive at our facility before a confirmation from us. Thank you for considering our agency and we look forward to your visit.

Volunteer: Meet ALICE Experience Corps
As a member of the Meet ALICE Experience Corps, you will come to be experts in helping us spread awareness of ALICE and make strides to alleviate poverty, while still having the flexibility to join the events with days/times that work for you.
