Volunteer: Garden Volunteer

Berry Good Farms, a vocational training program of North Florida School of Special Education, is seeking volunteers to support daily farm and garden operations, working under the guidance of Berry Good Farms staff while students are off for the summer!

Volunteer tasks may include:

Planting & pruning - cut flowers, vegetables, and fruit treesAquaculture and hydroponic plant careGarden bed preparationGeneral grounds maintenanceBee care

Attire:

Closed-toe shoesSchool-appropriate clothing (shorts must be finger-tip length, no crop tops, no explicit langiage on clothing)WaterHat recommended

Parking & Arrival: Parking is available in NFSSE's school lots or along Mill Creek Rd. Arrive at the Lower School Front Office (largest building to the left of campus, closest to the barn)

Court-mandated Community Service:

Individuals seeking to complete court-mandated community service hours at North Florida School of Special Education (NFSSE) must receive approval before beginning any volunteer service. Due to the nature of our organization and our commitment to the safety of our students, we are unable to accept individuals with convictions involving violent crimes or crimes against children. Please note that volunteer opportunities for court-mandated service are limited and will not involve direct interaction with students. Available assignments are based on organizational needs and supervision requirements. Court-mandated volunteers must disclose the nature of the offense resulting in community service requirements and provide any court documentation related to the service requirements. Acceptance is at the sole discretion of NFSSE and is subject to organizational needs, safety considerations, and volunteer placement availability. To determine eligibility and available opportunities, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Eden Resnik, at EResnik@northfloridaschool.org prior to scheduling service hours.

North Florida School of Special Education has many summer volunteering opportunities throughout our Activity & Specialty camps.

Activity vs. Specialty Camps

Activity: Students rotate through art, PE, culinary, yoga/karate, and more fun activities. Activity camps volunteer shifts: Volunteers in the activity camps MUST commit to an entire week! Split into morning and afternoon shifts; 9AM – 12PM and 12:30PM – 3PM

Specialty: A variety of specialized week-long activities for students interested in certain areas like Barkin’ Biscuits, horses/barn, biking, golf, excursions, etc. Specialty camps volunteer shifts: Specialty camps run on half days; morning or afternoon. Volunteers can select individual days of the week in specialty camps. 30 minutes before and after are added to the volunteer shifts for setup and cleanup assistance: 8:30 AM– 12:30PM and 12:30PM - 4:30PM. If you are completing a whole day by signing up for a morning AND afternoon camp, you would take your lunch between 12:00PM and 1:00PM.

After Care: Volunteers will be asked to support our activities. This may include helping instructors/teachers, getting supplies, or being a peer with our students. After Care is from 3:00PM – 6:00PM.

You may potentially work with NFSSE students of all ages; 6-22 years old academic ages, 22+ years old postgraduates.
