Volunteer: COVID-19 Emergency Food Drive - Our Redeemer Lutheran Church

The coronavirus has closed schools and most community centers, creating a gap in meals for children. Seniors, people with chronic conditions, and those with compromised immune systems face higher risks in public spaces — forcing many to remain at home. Working families who can barely make ends meet now simply cannot absorb any added expenses this pandemic has caused and are the most likely to be affected as concerns over layoffs are now a reality. Please help us help the people in our community by donating non-perishable food (canned meat, soup, stew, fruit, veggies, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, rice, pasta, etc) for these reasons. Please no meat or fresh fruits and vegetables. To drop off donations, contact Pastor Bill at revbillreister@aol.com or 904-766-4728. 1 volunteer hour for every 10 items donated will be given.

Safety First

Safety is paramount! Please read and follow these precautions before beginning this volunteer project:

Do not purchase items or prepare care packages if anyone in your household is sick When packaging goods, wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face Donated items must be unopened, new, and not expired

Volunteer: Become an RSVP Volunteer

What Is RSVP?
RSVP is one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation—matching community entities with individuals age 55 and over who are willing to help. RSVP volunteers choose how and where they wish to serve, and can even choose how many hours and what days they are available.

What Are The Benefits Of Being An RSVP Volunteer?
As an RSVP volunteer, you receive many benefits. Studies have shown that those who volunteer are less likely to become ill and to maintain a more positive outlook on life. Volunteering keeps seniors active and provides a chance to form new friendships and social connections. Throughout the year, RSVP provides special recognition opportunities to volunteers for their hard work. Recognition may include special events, gifts, awards, and so much more.

What Do RSVP Volunteers Do?
RSVP volunteers provide hundreds of community services to a variety of non-profit agencies, schools, and government programs. The volunteer may choose to provide assistance to veterans, beautify the St. Johns River, read to elementary school students and so much more. Many volunteers choose an assignment for the new challenge it offers. Regardless of an individual's skill, experience, interests or goals, they will be an enormous resource and benefit to our community partners and the people they serve.

RSVP Volunteer Opportunities Include:
There are so many needs in a community as large as Jacksonville. This list includes just a few examples. If you do not see an area that matches your interest or skill set, do not hesitate to contact us.

Common RSVP projects may include:

Tale Tellers: Volunteers read to Duval County Public School pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade children. Tale Tellers are provided with training on reading techniques, child development methods, cultural diversity and other topics that increase their effectiveness to make the time for both the Tale Teller and child enjoyable and promote a positive learning experience.  Floor Captains: Residents of senior independent living communities provide social interaction, companionship, communication, meal preparation & delivery, and plan activities for other residents.  Assisting Veterans: Volunteers assist at local non-profits to reduce food insecurity amongst homeless veterans.  Non-profit Assistance: Volunteers provide clerical support at a variety of local non-profit agencies.

Volunteer: Alleviate Child Hunger in the Eastside

Alleviate Child Hunger in The Eastside

Many children within Duval County do not have regular access to food. As you can imagine, this instability has an impact on their health and academic success. Snack packs will alleviate some of their discomfort and worry that negatively affects their learning, social interactions, and ability to enjoy life as a child should. This is an opportunity to help the Historic Eastside Community Development Corporation address this barrier to success. This need was also created to aid families heavily affected by the pandemic.

Packs can be completed in three easy steps:

1) Decorate a blank paper bag. A bright, colorful bag can really cheer up a child of any age!

2) Stuff the bag with the following items (all items should be easy to open, non-perishable, and should need a microwave at most to cook):

Shelf-stable milk, chocolate milk, or 100% juice Easy Mac, Tuna Salad or chicken salad kit Kashi bar, Kind or another granola bar Popcorn/Chip Bag Applesauce or fruit cup Napkin Fork/spoon

3) Create a positive, motivational card for the child and place it in each bag.

4) When you have completed the project and are ready to donate your bags, please contact our project coordinator here.

Safety First

Safety is paramount! Please read and follow these precautions before beginning this volunteer project:

Do not purchase items or prepare care packages if anyone in your household is sick When packaging goods, wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face Donated items must be unopened, new, and not expired

Volunteer Hours

For those that require service hours, one half-hour plus one hour for every two complete snack packs with card will be given for one participant.

Volunteer: Make a senior's day in Historic Eastside!

It may not be food, but these bags delivered to seniors receiving home-delivered meals and groceries in Jacksonville's Historic Eastside are still much-needed essential items. Senior Care Bags are assembled packages of items that seniors may find useful to make their daily life easier.  Bags should be reusable shopping bags, totes, or drawstring backpacks.

Welcome Bags can include a combination of six or more (but not limited to) of the following items:

Hand sanitizer (when available) 1-2 face mask Toothbrush and holder Toothpaste Washcloth Soap and holder Shampoo Body wash Comb or brush Facial tissues Lip balm Lotion Jar gripper Magnifying glass for reading Magazines Activity books (crosswords, sudoku, etc. Large print is preferred) Notepads Pens Sugar-free candy Box of tea Non-slip socks Decorated card of encouragement

Assembling these kits involves a few simple steps. First, create a card of encouragement to put inside the bag; write a positive message, or decorate it with an inspirational image. We recommend using cardstock so that it won't bend in the bag during transport. Then, one of each item and the card should be placed in the bag.

Volunteer: Collect food for the Historic Eastside CDC

Food Drive is one of our (DIY) Do it Yourself Volunteer Projects. DIY Volunteering allows families and groups of all ages and sizes to participate in flexible and meaningful community service opportunities from the comfort of their own homes or offices. DIY projects can be combined with social events, business meetings, celebrations, and more. You or your team will host a drive or purchase the supplies, complete the project, and drop off the completed project to the appropriate location. You may log your hours through the self log feature of your profile after registering for the event and completing your project. Once you have responded to this need you will be contacted by our project coordinator.

Food drives are a critical way volunteers can address real community needs individually or as a group, family, school, or neighborhood, especially now, during this critical time. Food items that you collect will benefit a family in need in Jacksonville's Historic Eastside neighborhood.

You can download an instructional document here which includes discussion questions and tips for holding a drive as well as a list of suggested items.  Most needed items are nonperishable food items, peanut butter, dried beans, rice, grains, pasta, sauces, canned items, 'add water' types of meals (dried rice and pasta dishes etc). When selecting items, please keep in mind that items that are too high in sodium are not good for anyone!

Safety First

Volunteer: Antiracism Children's Book Drive!

Educator Alvin Irby concluded that "Children's literature represents one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the fight against bigotry and racism in American culture." There's never been a more important time to ensure that all young minds have access to reading material that introduces and celebrates differences, features people of color in everyday situations, and even approaches difficult subjects such as racism with honesty.

Books can be scarce for many families, and books that are not white-focused are amongst the last donated. All books will be given to students through our partner agencies working with school-aged children in Northeast Florida.

You can help future generations come to a greater understanding of their world by donating one book, or many! Download a list of Antiracism children's literature by grade level here, or go straight to our Amazon Wishlists:

Books for Elementary School Books for Middle School Books for High School

When you are ready to make a donation, please contact our project coordinator here.

Volunteer: Become a Caring Connector

We need great volunteers for our Caring Connections Telephone Reassurance Program!

ElderSource's Caring Connections Telephone Reassurance Program provides a friendly telephone call from a volunteer to an older adult who is living alone and/or homebound. The goal of the program is to eliminate or reduce some of the concerns facing homebound seniors: isolation, loneliness, depression, anxiety and cognitive decline.

Many older adults want to remain independent and age in place in their own homes; however because they are isolated or housebound, meaningful relationships are difficult to come by. Caring Connections volunteers will reach out by phone regularly to these seniors to offer a friendly check-in and an opportunity to feel connected to the community beyond their front door.

Want to Become a Caring Connections Volunteer?

This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for someone looking to make a difference in the life of a senior. All volunteers must:

Be willing to establish a friendly, caring relationship with seniors over the phone. Have great listening skills. Be willing to make a commitment to call a senior at least once a week for a minimum of six months to a year. Agree to a background screening and reference check. Attend orientation and training sessions. For more information on this program, or if you know a senior who could benefit from this program, please contact: Vanessa Boyer

Volunteer: Give a Song and a Smile!

Can you carry a tune? Are you good at noodling on the guitar? Do you have a French horn gathering dust in a closet? Why not share your love of music with others in a short video of a song? Music can be a wonderful way to share and communicate, as well as support emotional well being. Faster music can make you feel more alert and concentrate better. Upbeat music can make you feel more optimistic and positive about life. A slower tempo can quiet your mind and relax your muscles, making you feel soothed while releasing stress. Music can even stimulate memory in the elderly! Your song can be effective for relaxation and stress management for many vulnerable groups: children, the disabled, and seniors!

Just download the detailed instructions here to get started.

You will receive 1.5 volunteer hours upon completion of all the steps.

Volunteer: Alleviate Child Hunger in Full Service Schools

Alleviate Child Hunger in Full Service Schools

Many children within Duval County do not have regular access to food. As you can imagine, this instability has an impact on their health and academic success. Snack packs will alleviate some of their discomfort and worry that negatively affects their learning, social interactions, and ability to enjoy life as a child should. This is an opportunity to help Full Service Schools address this barrier to success.

Shelf-stable milk, chocolate milk, or 100% juice Easy Mac, Tuna Salad or chicken salad kit Kashi bar, Kind or another granola bar Popcorn/Chip Bag Applesauce or fruit cup Napkin Fork/ spoon

What to do:

Assemble all items in a box or bag that you have decorated—you can use wrapping paper, markers, stickers—anything you’d like! Wish the recipient child well in a Happy Birthday card that you can make or purchase

Please note: All items must be in new and in original packaging.

Optional Items:

Juice boxesTemporary tattoos and/or other birthday party favors or gamesA book (list of recommendations here)Arts/Crafts items: (markers/drawing pad/paint and brushes, etc)

If you have any additional items that you think will help make a child's birthday special, please include them! Stuffed animals, puzzles, and card games are great gifts for any child to receive for their birthday.

Do not include anything that is religious or political in nature to respect everyone's beliefs as we don't who the recipient will be.

Once your box(es) is/are complete, please contact us at volunteer@uwnefl.org to arrange drop-off. We are happy to address any questions you may have as well.

For those that require service hours, one half-hour (for travel) plus 1.5 hours will be given per box assembled and dropped off. These are capped at 15.5 hours. For example, 4 boxes with drop-off would be 6.5 hours total.

Volunteer: Step Up for Socks!

Photo by Nick Page at Unsplash Jacksonville's Eastside families need socks!

Most of us take socks for granted, but for those without access to clean, new socks it's no small matter. Socks provide cushion for the soles, warmth in the winter, and absorb moisture to prevent blisters in the summer but are unfortunately the least donated item. You can help alleviate this issue for families in Jacksonville's Eastside by collecting new socks yourself or through a drive.

When collecting socks, please keep in mind:

All socks must be new and in their original packaging All types of socks are needed:  Any color Work socks or dress socks Winter and summer socks Socks for men, women, children, and infants Special socks for people with foot pain or diabetes For those interested: new underclothes for children are also a need in the community

If community service hours are needed, we will give one half-hour plus one hour for every 15 individual pairs of socks collected, capped at 10.5 hours for one participant.

Please contact United Way of Northeast Florida here to arrange a drop off when you're ready or if you have any questions.

Volunteer: First Generation College Starter Kits for Eastside Graduates

Many universities and colleges are now requiring freshmen to live on campus their first year. First Generation College Starter Kits are one of our (DIY) Do it Yourself Volunteer Projects. DIY Volunteering allows families and groups of all ages and sizes to participate in flexible and meaningful community service opportunities from the comfort of their own homes or offices. DIY projects can be combined with social events, business meetings, celebrations, and more. You or your team will host a drive or purchase the supplies, complete the project, and drop off the completed project at the site. You may log your hours through the self log feature of your profile after registering for the event and completing your project.

Volunteer: Sort clothing

The clothing ministry program of Presbyterian Social Ministries collects new and gently used clothing. Volunteers then come in and sort them by gender, size, type, and season. After they are sorted and boxed accordingly, we distribute them back out to direct-service partner agencies. Typical recipients are schools, churches, and a variety of other nonprofit agencies that give the clothes away directly to those in need.

Donated clothes require daily attention and volunteers are critical to keeping the process moving along smoothly.

We process over 300,000 articles of clothing per year, most of them new. Much of this success is driven by the volunteers that give their time throughout the year getting clothes ready for distribution.

 How to be prepared:

When volunteering, wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Sometimes volunteers may be asked to lift some boxes. The clothes need to be sorted, sized, and grouped by gender and season and boxed up. Specific instructions will be given so you’ll know exactly what, where, and how to do the clothing. There is ice/water onsite and a refrigerator/microwave available to use should you like to bring a snack to eat while you’re here.

At this time, we can only accommodate small groups (more than two (2) people) with pre-approval. We are in greatest need of volunteers that can commit to a regular schedule. Time is flexible: come for 1-2-3 hours, all day, every other week - whatever suits your schedule and personal goal as the volunteer. Unfortunately, we are not open on weekends.

Minors are welcome when accompanied by adult supervision.

Work is indoors.

Work is episodic. Some days we may have a lot to sort through, other days we may have very little. We will inform you if there is not any need to come in if you are scheduled.

Please note: We will contact you before your first visit to confirm times and availability. Please do not arrive at our facility before a confirmation from us.

Thank you for considering our agency and we look forward to your visit.

Volunteer: Food Drive for Lutheran Social Services

There is currently an urgent need for food at Lutheran Social Service's Nourishment Network Market. Pantry usage was 17% higher in 2022 than in 2021.

Food drives are a critical way volunteers can address a real community needs individually or as a group, family, school or neighborhood. Food items that you collect will benefit a family in need through Lutheran Social Services.

Most needed items are nonperishable food items, peanut butter, canned meats, dried beans, rice, grains, pasta, sauces, canned vegetables, granola bars, 'add water' types of meals (dried rice and pasta dishes, etc.). When selecting items, please keep in mind that items that are too high in sodium are not good for anyone!

For guidance on what items to collect, United Way of Northeast Florida has created a chart of how much food it takes to feed a family. Please download this document and use it when creating a wish list or shopping list.

Drop off donations to our office at 4615 Philips Hwy, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Contact Nourish Network manager, James Perrigan, for coordinating large donations.

The LSS Nourishment Network food pantry is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and additional hours on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

LSS encourages individuals to deliver food donations when the food pantry is closed in order for staff to assist

United Way can document community service hours for those that need them and will give one hour for every 15 items donated. One item counts as each package donated: one can of soup is one item and a six count package of apple sauce is one item. Just contact us here with questions.

Brighten the day of a Pine Castle client!

You can brighten the day of an individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities! Make a card for a client participating in programs at Pine Castle and share a little sunshine with them. To learn more about Pine Castle and their programs, please visit their website.

Create a card with cardstock. You can decorate it using crayons, colored pencils, pens, etc. Draw a picture, write a positive quote, write a poem, or glue on one of these images. Be creative as long as it's encouraging and positive!

Guidelines for cards:

Exclude the date so it never feels old Write large and legibly Avoid any religious references as you will not know the faith of the recipient Use positive messaging focusing on happiness Avoid any suggestion that the recipient's situation needs improving such as "feel better" or "cheer up" Avoid hurtful language; write the card as if you were addressing your best friend or a loved one Avoid passive, victim words and do not refer to a specific condition Do not use the word "special"

When the cards are ready for donation, please contact the project's coordinator to arrange a drop-off date or to receive the mailing address. United Way of Northeast Florida will verify one volunteer hour for every five handmade (not printed) cards created up to 8 hours. We would also be happy to provide a volunteer verification document if needed.

Volunteer: Giving to The Giving Closet Project

Working to break the cycle of poverty.

At heart, all students want stability and love — but poverty makes it difficult for them to get something as simple as their basic needs met. This leaves them feeling ashamed and hopeless among their peers.

Children in the richest country in the world shouldn’t have to go without basic necessities like food, clean clothes, and hygiene products.

Students who need assistance are referred by the school district or school staff or by social service agencies. The Giving Closet Project creates a custom care kit based on the individual student's needs. Within a week, the care package is discretely delivered to the student, helping them feel seen and supported.

Of critical need, The Giving Closet Project is always in need of these hygiene items:

Black hair care items Wide-toothed comb Shampoo (sulfate-free, alcohol-free, and PH balanced) Shampoo Leave-in conditioner Conditioner Hair oil Styling Gel/Curl-defining Product Shower caps or satin bonnet Spray bottle Soap Lotion Deodorant Toothbrushes Toothpaste (travel and full size items)

Also, to support students' needs, the following items are in demand:

New socks and underwear (ALL sizes as we serve PreK-12th) Backpacks (clear and mesh for middle- and high school)

TGCP encourages individuals to deliver donations when the center is open for staff to assist. Contact TGCP here to arrange drop-off.

United Way can document community service hours for those who need them and will give one hour for every 15 items donated. Just contact us here.

Volunteer: Share Knowledge, Connections, and Resources with Students on the Social Platform for Social Mobility

Only 3% of high-performing, under-resourced students end up in a great first career experience. On our social platform, professionals like you can help change that.

Here's how:

1. Sign up via your computer at my.backrs.com or by downloading the Backrs mobile app from the Apple App or Google Play Stores.

2. Tell us a little about your background and experiences by completing your profile. This takes 5 mins. (Up to 15 if you'd like to give students more details about your hobbies and interests.)

3. We add you to identity-based, regional, university, and career-path Affinity Networks where you can connect with students you're well-positioned to support.

4. In Networks, you can answer students' questions, post resources or job/internship opportunities, and share insights into your college and career journey by responding to Backstage Pass posts. Though each of these actions takes a few minutes, they all have meaningful impacts on young people.

5. If you'd like to play a more involved role in a student's journey, you can join their panel of backrs. This enables you to view their goals, post on their personal feed, schedule Zoom check-ins, and even contribute to their Flourish Fund. It's a great choice for those looking to offer low-lift, relationship-driven support.

Best way to see how convenient and rewarding being a backr really is? Give it a try, commitment-free:

Sign up on your computer: my.backrs.com

Or get the Backrs mobile app: Apple App Store or Google Play Store

Our Impact Model

Research shows that cross-class relationships are the biggest predictors of social mobility. And financial margin increases the odds of college persistence four-fold.

We partner with schools and youth organizations to recruit committed high school and college students into our community. Then, by removing the barriers the keep well-resourced adults from connecting with under-resourced young people, our technology builds bridges across socioeconomic strata, enabling people like you to empower students like Diego R.

Diego R. joined Backrs so he could pursue his dream of becoming a biomedical engineer. Thanks to his talent, hard work, and the support he's received from his backrs, he's well on his way to making that dream a reality. As he explained:

"My brother was born with Chronic Kidney Disease. He’s the man who gives me the strength to pursue Biomedical Engineering and become an accomplished technician. I strive to make the lives of those who suffer like him better. I want to be the change he needs to be healthy."

All of the students in our community are driven to build a better world; when they're given the resources to do so, everyone around them benefits.

The Backrs Experience

Being a great backr isn’t about grand gestures or having all the answers. It’s about the small things: sharing a word of encouragement. Passing along a helpful resource. Making an introduction. These actions make a big difference--take it from some of our current backrs:

"As a backr, I love the opportunity to support and mentor my three proteges as they grow and develop. I feel grateful to be able to guide and shape their future in a positive way. Through Backrs, I have been able to watch them grow into confident and capable individuals, and it has given me a sense of purpose and fulfillment that I can't put into words. It's made a tremendous difference in my life to see them achieve their goals and know that I played a role in helping them get there."

- Ahmed Dawood, Marketer at Apple

"Backrs gives me an opportunity to utilize my expertise to provide mentoring and support to students. Even though my students are a couple time zones away, I have the flexibility to connect with them on my time and have been dedicated to checking my app weekly at minimum to engage in conversations and answer questions. Its exciting to celebrate their wins and talk about future plans. Mentoring was very impactful in my life so it gives me joy to give back in this way."

- Lori Hunt, College Provost

Volunteer: DIY: Urgent Need for Adult Diapers in North RIverside!

ADULT DIAPER DRIVE (NORTH RIVERSIDE)

Please be sure to acknowledge the DIY and Kit Projects Volunteer Waiver and follow the directions carefully.

WHAT TO DO:

Assembling Adult Diaper Drive items involves a few simple steps. The kit should include at least three packs of adult diapers. To truly brighten the senior's day, create a card of encouragement to put inside a box; write a positive message, or decorate it with an inspirational image. We recommend using cardstock so that it won't bend during transport. To make the kit extra special, consider decorating the box.

You can find some helpful tips for hosting a drive HERE.

For anyone collecting hours, we will verify one half-hour plus one volunteer hour for every three packs of diapers and a card.

When finished, contact our project coordinator here to let them know how many items you have and to coordinate drop-offs. Please note: due to the limited staff capacity of our team and our partners, it may take 3-5 days to respond and coordinate delivery.

WHY THIS DRIVE:

The Adult Diaper Drive is one of our (DIY) Do it Yourself Volunteer Projects. DIY Volunteering allows families and groups of all ages and sizes to participate in flexible and meaningful community service opportunities from the comfort of their own homes or offices. DIY projects can be combined with social events, business meetings, celebrations, and more. You or your team will host a drive or purchase the supplies, complete the project, and drop off the completed project at the appropriate location. You may log your hours through the self log feature of your profile after registering for the event and completing your project.

Many of our seniors live in our most vulnerable communities, and Jacksonville's Historic Eastside is no exception.  Meeting basic care needs is important to seniors who are still living independently, providing them a measure of control over their lives that is critical to a sense of dignity and self-esteem. Unfortunately, items like adult diapers are often overlooked when community drives are held.

Volunteer: DIY: Urgent Need for Adult Diapers in the Eastside!

 ADULT DIAPER DRIVE (EASTSIDE)

Volunteer: Meet ALICE Experience Corps

The Meet ALICE Experience is designed to help participants understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month. It is a simulation, not a game! The objective is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by low-income people.

 Here’s how the Experience works:

Participants assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget and interact with volunteers playing the roles of bill collectors, school administrators, service providers, and more. A simulation creates a community of people living in poverty for one “month” comprised of four 15-minute weeks. During this hour, each family unit must connect with community resources (i.e. schools, utility companies, social service workers, etc.) to meet their basic needs on a limited income. The experience lasts about two hours. It includes an introduction, the actual simulation exercise, and a debriefing period in which participants and actors share their feelings and experiences and learn about ways they can get involved in reducing poverty in our community.

What will volunteers do?

During a simulation, we use volunteers to role-play as community agencies such as child care centers, social services, utilities, interfaith services, sheriff and more. We are seeking individuals to join a pool of volunteers who can take on one of these essential roles during upcoming simulations that fit into your schedule. As a member of the Meet ALICE Experience Corps, you will come to be experts in helping us spread awareness of ALICE and make strides to alleviate poverty, while still having the flexibility to join the events with days/times that work for you.

Volunteer: DIY: Confidence Kits

CONFIDENCE KITS

Please be sure to acknowledge the DIY and Kit Projects Volunteer Waiver and follow the directions carefully.

WHAT TO DO:

Download the instructions for making confidence kits HERE.

You or your team will host a drive or purchase the supplies, complete the project, and drop off the completed project to the appropriate location. You may log your hours through the self-log feature of your profile after registering for the event and completing your project.

If you would like to hold a drive, you can find some helpful tips HERE.

For those that require service hours, one half-hour plus one hour for every two complete Confidence Kits with a card will be given to one participant.

Kits must contain EVERY item listed and be in a decorated bag with a decorated card to receive full service hours.

When finished, contact our project coordinator here to let them know how many kits you have and to coordinate drop-offs. Please note: due to the limited staff capacity of our team and our partners, it may take 3-5 days to respond and coordinate delivery.

WHY THIS KIT:

Increasingly, many children in grades kindergarten to high school, as well as adults, are in households that struggle financially and do not have regular access to food and basic hygiene products. Feminine products are ineligible for coverage under food stamps and SNAP benefits, contributing to what is called “period poverty”. In the US, nearly 1 in 5 girls have missed school because they lack access to feminine hygiene products, which leads to embarrassment and lack of self-esteem.

If a girl has to stay home every time she has her period, she will fall behind her classmates by 145 days. Consistent school absences lead to a drop in grades and performance, which will have lasting repercussions in these student’s lives. By providing these critical health items, these girls will have one less thing to worry about and be able to focus on what is really important – their education

The is one of our DIY (Do it Yourself Volunteer Projects). DIY Volunteering allows families and groups of all ages and sizes to participate in flexible and meaningful community service opportunities from the comfort of their own homes or offices. DIY projects can be combined with social events, business meetings, celebrations, and more.

Kits will be dispersed to our Full Service Schools network to be distributed to students or through other non-profit partner agencies that serve the homeless or veteran populations.

Volunteer: School Supply Kits for Lutheran Social Services Refugees!

School Supply Kits is one of our (DIY) Do it Yourself Volunteer Projects. DIY Volunteering allows families and groups of all ages to participate in flexible and meaningful community service opportunities from the comfort of their own homes or offices. DIY projects can be combined with social events, business meetings, celebrations, and more. You or your team will host a drive or purchase the supplies, complete the project, and drop off the completed project to the appropriate location. You may log your hours through the self log feature of your profile after registering for the event and completing your project. Once you have responded to this need, you will be contacted by our project coordinator.

Purchasing or collecting school supplies is a great way to support the work that we do through our school partners such as Lutheran Social Services. School supplies are needed year-round, not only at the beginning of the school year. We invite to you participate n this DIY Project by collecting supplies on your own or through a drive. You can download a list of the most requested supply items here.

You will earn service hours as you do it! We will offer one half-hour plus one hour of service for every 15 items collected and delivered for one participant.  Please email volunteer@uwnefl.org with pictures of your items prior to drop off to receive service hours.

To coordinate drop off directly with Lutheran Social Services, please call (904) 448-5995. If you have further questions please contact our program coordinator HERE
