---Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
United Way of Northeast Florida is thrilled to be back Out East for the return of our signature MLK Day of Service, the first since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Join United Way staff, Wells Fargo leadership, corporate teams and community volunteers for what will be a transformation of a Historic Eastside landmark, Matthew Gilbert Middle School. First opened in 1928 as a high school for Black students before it transitioned to a middle school following integration, it is still a major educational anchor for the neighborhood. Notable alumni include Henry Lee Adams, Jr., the first African-American judge in the middle district of Florida and Bob Hayes, Olympic gold medalist and NFL Superbowl Wide Receiver.
